Today is a perfect day to take the bike out on the open road!

Come out for the 10th annual Hogs for Dogs (and Kitties Too) Charity Ride to raise funds for the animals at Heartland Animal Shelter (2975 N. Milwaukee Ave, Northbrook).

Registration is from 10:30 – 11:30 this morning. Get there early and say “hi” to the kitties and pooches you’ll be helping! The bike ride starts at 11:45, leaving from the shelter. After 70 miles, riders will end up at Sideouts Bar & Eatery (4018 Roberts Road, Island Lake), where the after “pawty” goes from 2:00 – 5:00 with food, live music, raffle prizes, and more!

Didn’t register in advance? No worries! You can register before the race for just $30.

Can’t make it for the ride? No worries! You can still come to the after “pawty” with your $10 donation.

SECOND GUEST: Julia Poukatch, PAWS Chicago Communications Associate

Pets are worth saving: that’s the mantra of PAWS Chicago, the city’s largest no-kill humane animal rescue organization.

Julia tells us about an event happening today that has our tails wagging: the Music Box Theater is showing two special screenings today as part of the national Dog Film Festival! The first screening is at 11:30 am showcasing family-friendly animated and other light-hearted doggie shorts. The second screening at 2:00 pm will showcase more sophisticated films including documentaries all dog lovers will enjoy! 50% of the tickets proceeds will be donated to PAWS Chicago.

Dylan’s Candy Bar (445 N. Michigan Ave, Chicago) is hosting an adoption event to try to find homes for 40 dogs from PAWS Chicago! Stop by from noon – 4:00 on Sunday, September 18th and meet your new best friend!

Can’t adopt but still want to help? Just buy some candy! 10% of sales from the day will benefit PAWS Chicago and the homeless animals they’ve saved.
