Saying Goodbye to ‘Downton Abbey’-What’s Next?

After 6 remarkable seasons, we say farewell to the 12-time Emmy-winning hit show, ‘Downton Abbey‘ when the series finale airs on Sunday, March 6th.

If you are a fan of the show too, you are just as heartbroken to say goodbye.

The good news–many of our favorite actors from the show are already taking on new roles in new series and movies! Many of the actors from ‘Downton’ are taking on roles that are the complete opposite of the character’s that made them famous.

The matriarch of the family, and of the show, the Dowager Countess, played by the talented Maggie Smith, is now playing a homeless woman in the film, ”The Lady in the Van,” which is based on a true story.

The Earl of Grantham, Robert Crawley, played by Hugh Bonneville, is set to be in the BBC mini-series, The Hollow Crown: The War of Roses. Also featured in the mini-series is fellow PBS star, Benedict Cumberbatch.

Michelle Dockery, who plays Bonneville’s daughter, Lady Mary Crawley, will play a thief and con artist just out of jail in the new TNT series, ‘Good Behavior.”

Her sister, Lady Edith, played by Laura Carmichael, is currently starring in a stage play called ‘The Maids’ alongside Uzo Arbua. She will also be in the upcoming film, ‘A United Kingdom’ and a crime series called ‘Marcella.’

Brother-in-law and widower, Tom Branson, played by Allen Leech, will be in the action-thriller, ‘Hunter’s Prayer.’

Joanne Froggatt, who plays Anna Bates, will be staying with PBS but switching roles from the lovable Anna to the notorious poisoner, Mary Ann Cotton, in the new mini-series, Dark Angel.

Anna’s husband, Mr. Bates, played by Brendan Coyle, has already completed his first season playing a mob boss on an Esquire TV series called ‘Spotless’ and is on Syfy’s second season of ’12 Monkeys.’

Also switching from a good guy to bad guy is Kevin Doyle, who plays the innocent Mr. Molesley on ‘Downton.’ Doyle is in the Netflix’s series “Happy Valley,” which also stars Siobhan Finneran, who played the also-scheming Mrs. O’Brien on ‘Downton.’

Many of the other actors from the show are also on other television shows and/or set to film new films!

The best news of all? The majority of characters are up for another season and/or a film of ‘Downton Abbey.’ Most of the actors say they will join on as long as the story is something that they believe is worth sharing!

A ‘Downton Abbey’ film?? Yes, please!!
