For those of you who don’t know me quite yet, allow me to describe myself: I like animals and hockey.
So today is kind of like Christmas for me. Amanda Bickell A.K.A. Mrs. Bryan Bickell, #29 of the Blackhawks, is joining me on the show today to talk about the Bryan & Amanda Bickell Foundation: creating awareness for the misunderstood dogs known as Pit Bulls and working with them to assist abused children.
For Amanda and Bryan, it all started about eight years ago when they met and adopted their Pit pup Bailey. Shortly thereafter, Ontario banned Pit Bulls.
Listen as Amanda tells us all about Bailey and how supporting Pit Bulls began for her and Bryan:
Now, the Bickells’ mission is to help both Pits and abused kids through four programs:
1) Bick’s Pits– Every month, the Bickell Foundation features an adoptable Pit Bull that needs a forever home. This month, 12-year-old Red is in the spotlight! Take a look at all the Pit Bulls up for adoption here.
2) Paws for Strength– This program helps abused children with the help of certified therapy Pit Bulls who were also once abused.
3) Chicago Loves Pits– The Bickells promote awareness, start conversations, share the truth, and open minds and hearts to encourage rescue and adoption of Pit Bulls through this program.
4) Bullies Against Bullying– Pit Bulls are often seen as bullies due to the negative connotation we may associate with them from the stories we hear in the media. This program is all about correcting our misunderstandings, as well as discouraging bullying among kids.
Learn more about the four programs that make up the Bickell Foundation below. Plus, Amanda tells us all about Red, this month’s adoptable Pit!
A new Senate Bill is making the rounds that has all Pit Bull lovers talking– and not in a good way. Learn about Senate Bill #648 here, and how it negatively affects stray animals.
Amanda explains the details about why Senate Bill 648 is so disconcerting, and how you can make your opinion heard:
The Bickell Foundation is gearing up for a summer filled with events! On July 4th, they’re hosting the Bryan Bickell Charity Classic golf tournament, which is the perfect excuse to visit Canada.
If you’d rather stay local, join them on July 19th for the Mustache Crawl in River North. Early bird tickets are only $10, and a portion of the proceeds benefit the Bickell Foundation. Mustaches, beer, and charity? Count me in.
Golf tournaments! Bar crawls! It’s going to be a fun summer with the Bickells. Get the scoop on these fun events here:
