In some sad news today, Elmer Lynn Hauldren, known to MILLIONS of Chicago area television viewers as the Empire Carpet Man, has died at the age of 89, the company announced today.

Hauldren was the face and voice of Empire Carpet’s commercials, on both on TV and the radio since the 1970’s.

He continued to work with the company until the time of his death, mostly via his voice work, which can still be heard on commercials today, with an animated caricature of himself used in the commercial.

    I remember the Empire commercials as a kid. He always seemed like a very likable person worthy of your trust. It was because of him that the number 588-2300 is so memorable!
